And the structures in the area such as the stonework as well as the environmental works including old roads and water channels join the buildings to form the historic landscape of Maezawa. It was selected as the important preservation district of historic buildings by the Ministry of Education、Culture、Sports、Science and Technology in June, 2011. With the cylindrical columns like the Greek architecture and the fan-shaped stained-glass decoration, it was one of the largest municipal government offices in the prefecture at the time of its construction in Meiji era. Relocated/reassembled/preserved by the support of local citizens, this building is now the history museum, open to public, to exhibit the archeological finds from Shigiyama Castle ruin and the historical reference of Minamiyama Okurairisodo, a peasants' riot.
