To no Hetsuri Station

To no Hetsuri

The magnificent valley along Okawa River with strange rocks and bizarre stones made by the erosion and weathering over a million years. Pale violet Japanese wisteria accentuate the fresh greenery of the valley in mid-May. "To no Hetsuri" means the "cliff with tower-shaped rocks". {"Hetsuri" is the dialect of this region for the cliffs/steep slopes over rivers.} It is a scenic place, and designated as the national natural monument. The pair of rocks standing close to each other in rain or wind are called "Meoto Iwa (rock couple)". It is in a walking distance from Yunokamionsen Station. "Otoko Iwa (male rock) is around 26m and "Onna Iwa (female rock)" is around 23m.

Kannonnuma Forest Park

The area surrounding Kannonnuma Forest Park is the home of various wild birds where you can enjoy the cheerful song in all seasons. It also houses many blooming trees for all seasons. In spring, you will be greeted by skunk cabbage, weeping cherry and double-blossom cherry. The transition of greenery from the fresh to deep green is wonderful. Don't miss the white flower of "buckbean" that only blooms by old ponds. Filled with negative ion, Kannonnuma Forest Park has well-maintained walking path. It is a picturesque park attracting many photographers.
